Farrel McWhirter, one of the best Redmond parks, is a child-sized mini farm. Take the kids to this fun-zone, show them real farm animals, or have a pony party.

Farrel McWhirter is one of the best Redmond parks, because it is a mini farm, and it’s just the right size for parents and kids. This Eastside Seattle park has some truly adorable farm animals. It's a petting zoo or a pony party for big birthday children.

These friendly animals are not worn out by the mobs; they are happy to see kids and let the kids see them. Visitors are not allowed to feed the critters, but some animals like to be petted.

Farmyard Animals: Kids Love Petting the Pets

  • No feeding animals
  • Read signs before petting

Some of the animals, such as goats, should not be petted. There are signs to remind parents of this. However, the cows are happy to have their heads and ears scratched. The two black and white cows are also happy to lick (slime) a child’s hand with their sand-papery tongues. One of the cows “moos” when she wants attention.

Remember: When petting ponies, and similar animals, offer a flat hand, otherwise the animal might think a finger is a carrot, i.e. don’t stick a finger in the critter’s mouth.

Kids Love the Farmyard Animals at This Eastside Seattle Pet Park

  • Ponies (or have a pony party)
  • Pigs
  • Goats
  • Rabbits, usually in the goat cage
  • Black and white cows
  • Large turkeys and chickens
  • Sheep and lambs

These animals are very well behaved and fenced in. Most children need encouragement to walk up to anything larger than a chicken. The set-up is perfectly sized for kids to get a good peek at farm babies. And, the children will get a laugh when they see the huge pig.

The leaping goats are really funny, too.

Redmond's Coolest Pony Party

Hey Grandma! This is a perfect present for a child (and mom). Be the favorite grandmother.

  • Pony Party $140 (Maximum 12 children.)
  • Available Year Round with Indoor Room and Party Kit
  • Pony Rides on the Horse Trail
  • Appropriate for ages 2-8, with 65 lb. weight limit. Each ride is 4-5 minutes.
  • For Larger Parties (up to 20), add a second pony for $100.

Redmond Parks are phenomenal. There are so many things right outside of the main Microsoft campus: The Sammamish Trail, Marymoor Park, and the Marymoor dog park are good examples. It's worth braving a few rainy days to have the privelege of living in such a rich, blessed area. And, one of the best parks in Redmond is Farrel McWhirter with its farmyard animals. This mini farm is one of the coolest educational places in Eastside Seattle for parents, grandparents, and children to explore.
